Turtle Snorkelling from Waikiki: Which Tour Is Worth It?
Updated October 24, 2026 · 4 min read
The two most-reviewed Turtle Canyon trips from Waikiki cost within €3.35 of each other, so price will not decide this. Length, boat and departure point will.
The two trips
| Trip | Length | From | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turtle snorkelling and sailing on Hāwea | 2.5 hours | €75.66 | 4.7 (849) |
| Waikiki Turtle Canyon snorkelling tour | 1.5 hours | €72.31 | 4.8 (537) |
The Hāwea is a 50-foot catamaran. It adds a sail along the Waikiki coast with cold brew and granola bars, so the extra hour is partly sailing; the listing does not say how long you spend in the water. The shorter trip departs next to the Hilton Lagoon, minutes from Turtle Canyon, and its listing guarantees turtle sightings.
Other boats run the same area, for example a Turtle Canyon spotting trip at €75.88 (4.7 from 399 reviews) and a trip limited to 18 people at €74.09, whose 4.9 rests on only 6 reviews.
Guarantees and distance
A sighting guarantee is part of the operator’s terms. Ask what happens if no turtle appears. It is not permission to approach: NOAA recommends staying at least 10 feet (3 metres) from Hawaiian green sea turtles. That is a recommendation, not a legal line, but coming closer makes illegal harassment more likely, and touching, chasing or feeding is never acceptable.
Who should choose which
Take the 1.5-hour boat if your day is tight or you worry about a longer time at sea. Take the Hāwea if you want a sail as well as a snorkel. Skip both if open-water swimming worries you; check what flotation help the operator supplies. More options are in the snorkelling tours.
